English Kennels Racing Alaskan Huskies

The Alaskan Husky
The Alaskan Husky is a breed originating several hundred
years ago in the Indian villages of Alaska. They consist of a
mixed heritage: Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute,
Greyhound, Saluki, etc - and even today, the breed maintains
an open pedigree. That is, the breed is continually being
improved by the addition of other breeds. You might call these
guys well-bred mutts, but you will find it hard to find a more
athletic, robust, or genetically sound group of dogs in any
purebred kennel club.
The Alaskan Husky varies in size from roughly 40- 80 pounds,
depending on the speed and team size of the kennel. Mushers
racing in unlimited class sprints (meaning they can use as
many dogs in their team as they like, often up to 24!) usually
have the smaller ones, while limited class teams (like 4 and 6
dog outfits) will be made up of bigger dogs. Alaskan Huskies
come in any color, and may have floppy ears, pointy ears, blue
eyes or brown (and occasionally one of each!) and are bred to
live outside, although they also make fine housepets. The three
defining features of the breed are their desire to pull, running
speed, and endurance - everything else is just packaging.
