New: Ultrasound video clips!
April 27th: Onyx was confirmed pregnant via ultrasound today. Thanks to
the great people at Murdoch Veterinary Clinic in Prince George, we were
able to get a few clips of the ultrasound for you to enjoy:

Video 4
The dark black mass in the videos is the amniotic fluid.
You can see the placenta - it is outlined but dark in the
middle. The puppy is the lighter colored blob, and if you
watch closely, at some points you are able to see the
little heart beating. The 4th video gives you the best view
of the whole length of a puppy. It's hard to say how many
are in there exactly but my best guess is 8.
April 24th - 57 lbs. Not much to see yet but Onyx's
mammary glands are starting to develop and we
should start to see some slight weight gain in the next
week or so.

April 29

Onyx is starting to get a belly! In the first picture she looks a little uncomfortable, but she has found a more cozy position for
the next shot. Weight: 58 lbs.
May 5

Onyx is up to 62 pounds  and is getting a very noticeable baby belly! Notice that it is shaved - that was done to facilitate the
ultrasound. The hair is growing back now and it's pretty itchy. Onyx is taking it easy and enjoys laying on the cool floor for naps.
May 16

These pictures aren't the best quality but it's still easy to see that Onyx is as big as a house. She spends a lot of time napping
and has started to do some nesting in her kennel. We are able to hear the babies' heartbeats with a stethoscope. Puppies
could be born as early as next Saturday (the 23rd) although we are expecting them a few days after that.
May 18

Onyx has a new toy - a stuffed bear- that she is starting to mother.

May 20  - Onyx is up to 68.6 pounds and her belly is 34 inches around at it's biggest point!
May 23rd - THE BIG DAY!

In the wee morning hours, Onyx went into labour. The first puppy arrived at 5:30 am - a little black female. Onyx, as a first time
mother dog, didn't know what to do. Tim and I helped her clean it up and got her settled down to let it nurse. The second puppy
was born shortly thereafter - a black male- and she still wasn't sure what was going on. But by the time the third puppy arrived,
Onyx was all business and doing a great job. The last two puppies provided quite the surprise as we were not expecting more
than eight!

As each puppy was born, I checked him or her over to make sure everything looked good. Each was weighed and the weights
were recorded- the puppies will continue to be weighed each day to monitor their gains. The first and last puppies born were
the heaviest, weighing in at 16 oz (1 pound) and the puppies in the middle ranged from 11 oz to 15 oz. Four black females, 3
black males, and three yellow females resulted and are doing wonderfully. Here are a few pictures taken as they were born -
individual photos will be posted later today with their unique weights, birth order and other relevant info.

First: the First born baby! A beautiful, one pound black female.

Each puppy was cleaned up, examined, and weighed:

And then there were two!

Five puppies in this photo -all black. We didn't see any yellow puppies until the 7th one was born. Onyx takes the opportunity to
rest in between babies being born.

Onyx delivered puppy number 10 - yellow female- at around 11:30 am. She is a big puppy weighing in at one pound.

Here is Onyx with her new family members:

May 24

Watch the website today as we will be posting individual photos of each puppy.

Questions about visiting? Families who have reserved a puppy are welcome to visit at any time, HOWEVER, please note that
you will not be able to handle the puppies right away. For health and safety of the puppies, they must be three weeks old
before being handled by strangers. They are not very interactive before that point anyway :) For people who do not have a puppy
reserved, we will allow visitations starting after the third week.

Pick up dates:  Puppies will be ready to go to their new homes starting on July 11th when they reach 7 weeks of age.
However, we strongly recommend waiting until they are 8 weeks old. Puppies being flown
must be 8 weeks old prior to
leaving. We encourage you to let us know as soon as possible when and how your puppy will be travelling.  Travel
arrangements must be made by the puppies 6th week at the latest - at this point you will also know which puppy will be joining
your family!

June 17th - some group photos at 3.5 weeks of age -introduction to the tunnel today
June 27, 2009

The puppies are growing fast, eating well, and learning a lot each day. This past week, they have become acclimatized to the
outdoors and have spend all day in our puppy play pen, minus play sessions of course, and sleeping indoors in the puppy room.
Today, however, they have moved to our indoor/outdoor puppy pen where they will remain with their mom for the next week. This
pen offers a large, cozy indoor area (complete with couch for momma Onyx to lay on to get away from their hungry little teeth!) and a
sandy play/potty area outdoors. The outdoor area is roofed to ensure that the puppies never get wet or chilled from bad weather.
Moving the puppies at this age allows them to begin their housetraining process naturally - since they can go outside anytime they
like, they are able to develop the natural  tendancy of keeping their home area clean.

Socialization continues.... the puppies have all met the cats, and now have a slightly bigger 'brother' named Chester who has been
playing with them as well. They love to play with soft toys and are learning to ignore loud noises. Feathers and bird wings are
awesome, and they particularly enjoy climbing up the big sand pile. Life is all fun at this age!

While  it was nice out most of the day, naturally I didn't have the camera with me while we played.... when I went to do the
photoshoot it was raining, so here are a few photos of the puppies enjoying lunch in their outdoor play area. There are also a few
photos of each puppy on their
individual pages.
July 1st 2009 - The clips are pretty all over the place, primarily because as I was filming one or more puppies were also climbing
on me, pulling my sleeves, etc. I have removed the sound so that they could upload quicker (our internet connection is slooooww!)

Enjoy!

July 3rd

Introduction to water - a nice hot day, sandy beach, good time for a splish splash!

Video 2 - Prepare to be amazed :)

July 7th
Yesterday the puppies went for their vet checkup and first vaccination. They are all in great health! Today they were tattooed and
microchipped. It's getting close to 'home time' for some of the puppies so I am soaking them up as much as I can!

July 8th

Bath time! The puppies had baths today to remove the extra green tattoo ink. No big deal for these little swimmers. Here are
some video clips of the puppies taken today.

July 10th

Puppies were introduced to a live pigeon today. Wow, did they think that was awesome! Pigeon, not so much. All of these pups
are very birdy. Later in the day, they were helping me with a project and were exposed to power tools. I don't think there is any
noise they haven't heard now. Unfortunately I did not get any videos of todays events but will try to get some new videos tomorrow.
The puppies are learning to sit and looooove cat treats! Miley will be the first to go to her new home and will be spending tonight
sleeping in a crate by my bed. Well,  I should say that she'll be in the crate, I will let you know if any sleeping occurs!

July 11th
Miley has gone to her new home in 100 Mile House, BC. She was a bit noisy in her crate last night until she settled down, but not
too bad. She is going to have a great time playing with her new little girls at their lakeside location!

July 12th
A day in the life of an Eromit puppy: here are some videos of the things we do each day.

Group Sit -  The puppies learn that if they sit, they get a treat. I am not asking them do anything.... they must offer this polite
bevahior to get their reward. It is amazing how fast they figure this out.

Tunnel Practice - the puppies practice running through the tunnel when I call them. This exercise helps to imprint the puppies
that are destined for agility homes. It is also good for the other puppies because they learn that enclosed places are not scary.

King of the Castle - The best way to teach puppies how to walk, run, and jump like adults is to allow them the opportunity to do
these things at their own pace. Every day we explore different areas of the yard and beach so they get used to hopping over logs,
climbing up hills, and walking things like mud and rocks. Everything is low-impact and voluntary and the result is puppies that are
very confident in a multitude of situations.

Individual time - Every day each puppy gets some one on one time with me. This varies from day to day and may include hanging
out in the house, snuggling on the couch, bath time, swimming, a game of baby fetch, chase, etc. Every day is an adventure!

July 16th.

Some group photos... we are down to four Onyx babies. Chester is trying to get as much playtime in as possible before his
buddies leave. They really enjoy wrestling with him (but don't worry, even though the pictures look scary it's all in fun and no one
was harmed!)
